This weekend we have another work party from 10am Saturday (more information below from Peter), and we continue racing on the river Sunday.
Commodore’s Update
Our new season has started, with our first event, the Rigging Out Supper, at The Wroxham. A smaller number than usual attended for various reasons, but for those attending they all enjoyed a lovely meal & atmosphere with views overlooking the river. Our thanks to Wendy & her team for an excellent evening & service.
Saturday also saw several boats being launched & rigged ready for racing, with a work party making sure everything was ready for Sunday, thanks to all who helped.
I was at the club on Sunday, it was great to catch up with members & watch the sailing. Sunday saw our first day of racing, with a mix of boats sailing in decent wind and the sun also came out. It was good to see members coming down, having a drink & food from the galley, sitting back and enjoying the racing whilst having a good natter.
As a polite reminder for those who have yet to pay for membership and boats moored at the Club or dinghies on the island, if you could do this straightaway please it would be appreciated.
Our Club is in bloom again, my thanks to Caroline for replanting our planters around the Clubhouse.
I look forward to watching the sailing and catching up with members.
To all our instructors, I need your help to be able to commit our Club to the many requests we have and our juniors continuing their progress through the Training Centre. We also have to look at the support we have had from our Club throughout the years and remember how rewarding it is to feed our skills back to those just learning to sail.
As I have said before, I need someone with good organisational skills to come forward to fill the role of Principal for our Training Centre, you don’t have to be an Instructor for this role. Please feel free to contact me to discuss the role.
We will have the Horning Boat Show back this year, which has been great for the Club & village, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
Maybe it was the good weather - or perhaps because it was the first weekend of the new season - but we had lots of people at the Club last Saturday all eager to get everything ready for the first day on Sunday, and it was not even an ‘official’ working party. Those, however, will continue next Saturday, 1000 to 1300 as usual, but the good news is that from May we have only 1 working party per month until October. You will find all the dates in your new White Book, but I will still confirm each date in advance as it is sometimes necessary to make changes. That is all from me this week and I will report back on what we have accomplished in future editions of Jibsheet.

Race Management Update
It was encouraging to see a number of members out on the water over the weekend, and we look forward to the number of sailors increasing over the coming weeks. If you have not done so already, please familiarise yourself with the Sailing Instructions – changes are highlighted in red. You can read them here.

Topper workshop at NBYC
We have been informed that there will be a Topper TLC event at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club on Saturday 9th (9am-4pm) and Sunday 10th April (9am-2pm) – which will provide an opportunity to get Russ, the Production Manager from the Topper Factory, to look at your boat and upgrade it in time for the new season.
Horning Boat Show ‘Discover Sailing’ Open Day
Plans are well underway for our participation in the Horning Boat Show, with Taster Sessions for all the family planned from 10am-4pm on Saturday 30th April. These will be £5 per person (U16s free). Please do spread the word to anyone who may be interested and pass on the attached poster. Pre-booking is not essential, although we would encourage it, by emailing news@horning-sailing.club
HSC 200 Club.
As planned the first quarterly draw of the season went ahead in the Clubhouse on Sunday 27 March. The winners cheques will be in the post shortly!
Fifteen numbers totalling £320 are drawn each quarter with a top prize of £75. If you would like to join the 200 Club the new HSC 200 Club application forms are now on the notice board on the back wall of the Clubhouse. Alternatively you can speak to Will.
