Hi everyone,
Another week of lovely weather (on the whole!), and this week has seen more activities at HSC with training continuing, the Sundown Series on Saturday and Club racing on Sunday – you can read more here https://horning-sailing.club/news/club-racing-26th-june-2022/. We also had several sailors participate in the Yeoman Nationals at NBYC – congratulations to them all, and you can find out the full results here
Looking ahead to this weekend we have a Yeoman Open as part of Keelboat weekend, with racing on both days (the full programme is below). In a change to the programme in the White Book, we will also be running the Sundown series on Saturday evening but a little later than usual, beginning at 5.30pm (this will also coincide with the Summer social should you wish to come down, enjoy the BBQ and watch the evening racing).
We’re getting towards Regatta season too, with Horning Week a month away - our Regatta weekend is on 30/31st July on Hoveton Little Broad and Horning Regatta Week runs from 1-5th August where there will be sailing all day every day, with socials in the evenings too. Please put this in your diaries if you have not done so already – it’s not to be missed!
Commodore’s Update
Welcome to all our new members joining the Club - our membership continues to grow & it’s great to see new families taking part in the club activities.
I was away at the weekend at Rutland Sailing Club where the ITCA NS5 were being held and Abbey was representing HSC. It was a very challenging weekend of sailing completing all races with gusts up to 30 mph. I spent Sunday on the Topper 4.2 squad committee boat with the Race Officer running all races.
Monday saw the management committee meet via Zoom, and paddleboarding was cancelled due to the localised bad weather, but it will be great to see everyone back next week.
Thursday (tonight) sees the Club undergo an RYA inspection on the Training Centre. Training is going well, if parents can help with various tasks please see a member of the team, all help is greatly appreciated.
Next Friday, 8th July, HSC is host for the Benjamin Foundation Strawberries & Champagne charity event, please support this - see event poster below.
This weekend is the Keelboat & Yeoman Open weekend. It would be great to see as many members as possible taking part in the event or coming along to watch. This is followed by the Summer Social from 17:30hrs, BBQ + Sides for £4 each, for booking details see poster (or purchase on the day subject to availability).
After sailing we intend to run a Sundown Series, all welcome to take part.
Any help or problems, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing you this weekend. Take care & keep safe,
Regards, Will - Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
I am using my piece here to keep reminding everyone of our big work party on 9th July, when we will be aiming to complete our hardstanding project. The more people we have, the quicker we can get it done. We will be moving boats off the racks, then moving the racks and weeding the ground currently under the racks. That done, we have to level the soil before laying the matting and then the plastic matrix segments on top. A bit like a giant jigsaw but with all the pieces the same. Finally we tip the shingle on top and brush it all in. Simple, but only if we have lots of people to make it all happen.
So that’s it from me, but I will be back with a final reminder next week. Enjoy this weekend’s keelboat competition and do not forget the social event from teatime on Saturday.
