It’s been another busy week at Horning Sailing Club, with a work party last weekend, followed by a Down river race to Thurne and dinghy racing on the river on Sunday. This weekend sees the 61st Yachtmaster Insurance Three Rivers Race take place, starting from Horning at 11am. This is an amazing volunteer-run effort and, with more than 100 boats set to take to the water, it is sure to be a great spectacle. Good vantage points at the start in Horning (from 11am), and Ludham, Potter Heigham and Acle Bridges later in the day. On the note of volunteers, we are still in need of volunteers for the Galley shifts, particularly 1am-4am, and 4am-7am on Sunday morning. Commodore’s Update
On Saturday, we continued with the completion of phase 1 of laying the new surface for the dinghies, this was achieved & looks great. My sincere thanks for the small group of members who have worked so hard to get this done, Phase 2 will start shortly.
It’s been a busy week; on Monday the Management Committee met to continue with the day-to-day & long-term running of the Club.
Our Flagship Three Rivers Race is this weekend, a big thank you to Kevin & his team who are working hard this week setting up for the race. Even if you are not taking part please come down & join in the atmosphere & fun of the weekend - it will be great to see you all. I will be travelling round the course by boat meeting the guardships & seeing the race in progress, my thanks to Jenny for offering her boat to the Commodore & guests. After that I will return to the guardship @ Martham, so it’s going to be a long weekend ahead. I will also be down the Club all day Friday with various tasks to do.
Kevin & his team still require some help with the early slots with the galley, and if you fancy a spell on a guardship @ Hickling please let Kevin know, it’s great fun.
A big thank you also to all who have helped getting the various tasks at the club done.
Today I was at the club where Holly, Peter & myself met with Greatest Hits Radio who wish to know more of what we do & what they could offer.
You will see a plea from Liz Ollier for unused working slow cookers to help struggling families, I’m sure as a club, members will come forward & help. If any friends etc have spare slow cookers please ask them to donate them to this great cause.
I am looking forward to the weekend, I would like to wish all our competitors the best of luck with the race, whether trying to win or a personal challenge to complete the race. We even have the chairman of the RYA taking part this year & would like to welcome him to HSC. David Hastings will be with me for the day, David, as most will be aware, is the founder of the 3RR so it will be great to see him.
So, it leaves me to wish you all a great weekend & see you round at the race.

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
This week my first priority is to thank all those who came along last Saturday to help lay the first phase of our new hardstanding area. It looks amazing, and was not really that difficult to do. The project is not yet finished as we still have the area under the racks to lay, but we have no more work parties until 11 June, so we can enjoy the 3 Rivers Race and Jubilee Bank Holidays before that.
My next priority is supporting 3RR of course and I am really looking forward to that. There are always things to be done so if you are free over there next couple of days come along and be part of the greatest sailing event of the year.

A Message from a member, Liz Ollier
As you may have seen in the local paper, there is an increasing issue in Norfolk of families moving into food poverty and, in many cases, also fuel poverty. Norfolk Community Foundation is supporting a number of initiatives including the food hub buses and also cookers’ courses through adult education and other means. It is not just younger people nor only those who are not working. Families with a wage earner are finding it hard to manage and so are the elderly, particularly if they are on their own. Even if they can obtain food, people are unwilling to undertake dishes which take oven cooking as gas and electricity has gone up so much in price.
Many of us have a slow cooker lurking in a cupboard and not being used. Would you consider donating it to such a good cause? NCF has undertaken to provide recipe leaflets and to channel to the Food Hubs, organisations like Sure Start and Age Concern. They will all be PAT tested first.
If you can help, slow cookers can be given to me when you see me (I’ll be on the Three Rivers guard ship at Acle this weekend and will have a car there too, and at TMOR the following weekend) or dropped with Hilary James in Horning (Pinewood Lodge, 35 The Avenue) or Sarah Adler in Norwich (29, Ipswich Road) as they have kindly agreed to help.

The RYA East Regional Junior Championships - June 18th & 19th
The RYA Regional Junior Championships are taking place on 18/19 June at Grafham Water Sailing Club. Last year, Abbey & Anya took part and had a brilliant time. There are a range of different fleets, from the main racing fleets to Regatta and OnBoard (aimed at those with Stage 2).
It would be great to get a Horning contingent going – and it's a great opportunity for young sailors to experience sailing in a new venue and see what it's like at a large racing event, all whilst learning at a little more on the water and gaining some confidence.
For the OnBoard fleet, there will be boats to hire for free or you can take your own boat.
