Hi everyone,
We hope that you’ve had a good week. We enjoyed a good day’s racing on the river Sunday (see the report here), and there is plenty more to look forward to this week. Firstly, we have a work party to clean up the Training Boats for this season on Saturday (see more from the Training Centre below), and then Club racing on the river Sunday (programme below). Don’t forget that entries for the Three Rivers Race close in just a few days’ time (23rd April, so be quick– www.3rr.uk)
Commodore’s Update
Yet another week has flown by with the Easter & school holidays finished. The weekend racing was slow going with little wind but some glorious sunshine. It’s great to see members coming down to the club just to watch the racing, and also to have a chat, drinks and sample some of the delights being produced by Vikki & the galley team, a massive thanks to them, with some visitors too.
Well done to Chris Bolton & Hamish Harmer who represented the club in the Ramuz trophy held at Beccles, again suffering very little wind, but came 11th.
Late on Tuesday afternoon, the emergency services used the club to launch their rescue boat to deal with an incident down river near Ferry Marina.
I was away with Abbey at the ITCA NS3 at Grafham Water, they could only race on the Saturday as Sunday had little to no wind, so the championship was decided on the results of Saturday, with no discards were possible. With 103 5.3 Toppers racing, Abbey came 40th overall following the 3 completed races, well done to her, I was on duty on the 4.2 Fleet – it was a busy weekend.
It would be great to see more of our Topper juniors take part in these events. We will be away again this weekend at Waldringfield Sailing club, where Abbey again will be representing HSC at the ITCA Topper Traveller, it is still possible for others to take part.
We wish Anya Gittins good luck as she completes more of her Duke of Edinburgh award, Anya was going to be with Abbey at the Traveller but the two events clashed.
Please keep a look out for further emails as shortly we will need volunteers to help prepare & paint the pontoon, many hands make light work. We will also be needing volunteers to repaint the woodwork of the club - if you feel you can do this during the week, we can get the materials so you can do it at a time to suit you, please let me know if you can.
Numbers are low at the moment on keel boats racing, if you have problems getting crew, please contact Holly as there are members available to crew.
Don’t forget to get your Three Rivers entry in as the cut-off date is getting close. We will also need volunteers to man the galley for the famous breakfasts, please sign up and help, this is the club’s prestigious event which brings a lot of money to the club. Please speak to Kevin Saunders & the Fields family who will book you into a slot.
I hope you have a great weekend, we will start shortly the paddleboarding on Monday evenings as we now have the lighter evenings and fingers crossed better weather.
See you soon, take care.

Some of you may have noticed that the pontoon which is normally moored on the broad is currently moored on the island where Bure Magic normally moors. This is because some work is needed to repair the shed on the pontoon (obvious when you look at it) and this will be done shortly. However the pontoon is a bit of an obstruction where it is so the plan is to move it round to the bay just past the Yeoman hoist. There was not time for the Thursday group to do that today (and it was very windy) so we will need a small team to move the pontoon round this Sunday. Just a bit of extra fun really.
I sailed my Rebel round from its winter quarters in Martham last week. It was a windy day and I timed the passage from Potter Heigham Bridge to HSC at just 1 hr 18 mins. I thought that was quite good so I was wondering whether anyone can claim a faster similar passage under sail. I have no doubt I will be challenged as soon as this Jibsheet goes out!
Coronation Weekend is only 2 weeks away now. We have some special Coronation prizes for all the races on 07 May. Each winner will be presented with a unique HSC Coronation glass, and you can win only one so there should still be plenty of incentive through the day. The prizes will be presented on the day after racing and hopefully still leave time to join the Coronation Flotilla sailing through Horning (as previously advertised in Jibsheet).

Chris & Hamish represent HSC in the Ramuz Trophy
A big thank you and well done to Chris Bolton & Hamish Harmer who represented HSC in the Ramuz Trophy, which was sailed for in Norfolk Dinghies on Sunday at Beccles Amateur Sailing Club. With extremely light winds it provided tricky sailing conditions, but our thanks go to them both for so ably representing the Club. A report on the day’s activities can be found here.
Discover Sailing Day postponed – 29th April
Unfortunately, we have needed to postpone our proposed Open Day which was scheduled for Saturday 29th April. We hope to have a new date to share with you soon – but in the meantime, if you know of anyone keen to know more about the Club, please feel free to share the Club leaflet with them (available here)

Training Update from Andy Barnham
This Saturday (22nd April) we are having our first boat cleaning & rigging session to prepare all the training boats for the season. I plan to start around 9.30 and finish at 4.30. Refreshments & light lunch will be provided. It is a great way for your young sailors to refresh their memories on how the boats go together. Any time you can give is appreciated, so please don't feel you have to come for the whole day!
Coronation Flotilla
I am organising a flotilla to celebrate the Coronation.
It will take place on Sunday 7th of May.
It will start from Black Horse Broad Entrance at 4.30pm. We will go through the village to Hobbs Mill just past Ferry Inn and back through the village to Black Horse Broad.
Boats should be dressed with bunting/flags and crew in fancy dress too maybe.
Open to all types of craft.
Ring your bells, toot your horns, wave and cheer.
All craft take part at their own risk.
Please ensure plenty of room between each vessel and adhere to all river safety rules and regulations.
If you can't take part, watch us go by and give us a wave.

Helms & Crew opportunities
Don’t forget that I am coordinating helms & crews who wish to get on the water... so, if you are a helm looking for a crew, or a crew looking to get on the water, please contact me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com with your requirements and contact details, I will do my best to coordinate these requests. At the moment we have more helms looking for crews, than crews looking for opportunities – so if you are keen to get on the water, it’s a great time to do so!
