Hi everyone, and welcome to this Christmas edition of Jibsheet. We hope your Christmas preparations are going well.
It was fantastic to see so many of our members (of all ages!) enjoying the Christmas Party last Saturday, with fun and games and a very special visitor! Huge thanks to the Entertainments Team for making this happen, and to Santa for finding time in his very busy schedule to visit us.
This Saturday sees our festive working party take place from 10am onwards, with more information from Peter below.
Commodore’s Update
On the 26th November Peter & myself attended the RYA Conference at The Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Suffolk. It was a very good day with chance to network with other clubs & fellow flag officers / friends, it’s good to meet in person again. We were updated with various changes before breaking out into various workshops dealing with specific topic areas. It was a lovely venue & my thanks to RHS for their hospitality & food, also to the RYA for another informative day.
I attended the Entertainments Committee meeting where plans for the Christmas party were discussed & plans made, with further meetings to arrange the coming seasons events.
My thanks to all involved in setting up & running our Christmas party, I hope you all had a wonderful time, unfortunately my apologies that I was unable to attend as I was away with Abbey who was sailing with the ITCA East Team at Grafham Water Sailing Club over the weekend, they all did extremely well, it was very cold & windy.
This Saturday we have a festive work party, with light lunch & festive snacks provided, please come down & help as without members help jobs cannot get done, it’s good fun to & a chance to meet other members.
I’m on the mend still, following my accident, thanks for the support from members & friends.
With the extreme temperatures & weather we are now experiencing, please take care, also keep a look out for less able neighbours / elderly, a call to members on their own to check they are okay, I’m sure would be appreciated.
That’s all for now.
On behalf of my children Abbey & Will, Nash the dog, and also myself
Take care & have a lovely Christmas
Regards

Vice Commodore’s Clew
Last Saturday’s Christmas Party went really well and I think everyone had a great time. If you follow HSC on Twitter you can see Father Christmas arriving, ringing his bell while everyone sang Jingle Bells and Duckie Poo at high volume. Most of the food and mulled wine was devoured and the party eventually ended with a large group playing the left/right port/starboard game, which, if you have never seen it, is just about the most hilarious party game going. We had a great team of members involved in setting up and running this event, and I am most grateful to all of them. Thanks also to all of you who came and made it a memorable evening. Let’s do it again next year (and not just at Christmas).
We have another opportunity for a bit of seasonal jollity this Saturday with our festive working party. It is not Santa’s little helpers we need this time, but Horning SC’s big strong helpers, to get out for some reed and grass cutting across the river and around the Club. Actually you do not need to be all that big or strong, just willing to turn up, do a bit of work, and then relax with some homemade soup, a mince pie and maybe a glass of mulled wine. Please let me know if you are coming so we can plan the food and drink bit.

Horning “HATS” Pantomime Winter Social
As you may be aware, with the exception of the last few years due to the pandemic, Horning Sailing Club has traditionally well supported the Horning Amateur Theatrical Society’s pantomime, and this year “Puss in Boots” is taking place from Thurs 19th-Sun 22nd January 2023 at Horning Village Hall. You may even recognise a few familiar faces. Performances are at 7.30pm from Thursday to Saturday, and there is a matinee at 2.30pm on Sunday. We are proposing to have a group of HSC Members attend on Saturday night (18th January). Tickets are £7 for adults and £4 for under-16s, and the Pantomime raises money for local charities. If you would like to attend as part of the HSC group, please let me know on holly.hancock@me.com as soon as possible.
