Hi everyone,
With just over 5 weeks to go until our 2022 season, excitement is building for the start of sailing again and plans are well underway for the coming season’s activities. The Flag Officers have been busy with numerous meetings, including planning social events for the year along with the Entertainments Committee. Don’t forget that you can check out our 2022 sailing programme here, which includes events such as the Horning Boat Show, Yachtmaster Insurance Three Rivers Race, Open Events and Horning Week. We also have a work party this weekend (Saturday 19th Feb 10am), which we hope you will support - more on this below.
Updates from your Flag Officers
Commodore’s Update
Firstly, on behalf of my family and the Club, I would like to send our sincere congratulations & best wishes to Val Taylor (Bob Hancock’s mother) for reaching the incredible milestone of her 100th Birthday, hopefully this season we will see Val at the Club.
Our new season is rapidly approaching and Peter and myself look forward to seeing and welcoming everyone. Our Management and all other committees have been working hard behind the scenes, so we are all ready for what we hope to be as normal season as we can.
Our Rigging Out Supper has been booked at The Wroxham Hotel for Saturday 26th March, arrive 19:00 for 19:30 and enjoy a 2 course meal (Main & Dessert). Details & booking will follow shortly. We have limited the numbers to keep everyone safe, so please save the date. Please book and pay early as we have to finalise numbers and pay in advance. You will now be able to pay directly into the Ent’s account, as we have changed the bank account to facilitate modern payment styles; also, when holding events - as we trialled last season - you will be able to pay by card. We hope that, as from the feedback last season, it is greatly welcomed.
For members who have boats on the Island or moored at the Club, please can you ensure you pay your fees straight away. If you require a mooring or if you have friends who would like to have one, please contact Geoff Stubbs, our Berthing Master. For Dinghies & Tenders on the Island please contact Andy Barnham.
If you/your children would like to take part in training this year, please remember to book your place with the Training Centre.
With costs spiralling everywhere, it’s even more important that our members support their club, whether at work parties, duties or events. The Training Centre would greatly appreciate it if parents would help with getting boats away and, if available earlier, to get them down ready for the sessions.
Regalia is available online - please see the website for range & details or contact Pauline Bourke.
If you have any queries or need any help and advice, please feel free to speak or contact me.
In the meantime, please all keep safe.
Regards
Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
We have a work party on Saturday 19 Feb (this weekend). You may have noticed they come round every 2 weeks this time of year. There is still plenty of outside work if weather permits, and we have plans for indoor work if weather is adverse. We would really like to see more of you and, as before, we will provide some refreshments to replace the energy you use. We are hoping to do some ground preparation for some new hardstanding for dinghies on the island, and perhaps more reed cutting across the river. Come and keep fit.
Strong winds forecast
As the wind is howling outside, you may well be aware that we are forecast to have extremely strong winds over the next few days. If you have a boat on the Island, if it is safe to do so, please ensure that it is securely tied down.
HSC 200 Club
We plan to hold the first quarterly draw of the season in the Clubhouse on Sunday 27 March. Fifteen numbers totalling £320 are drawn each quarter, with a top prize of £75. Like to join the HSC 200 Club? A fresh supply of 200 Club application forms will very shortly be on the notice board on the back wall of the Clubhouse. Alternatively you can speak to Will.
Training 2022
Many thanks to all those who have already been in touch regarding training for 2022. If you/your child would like to train in 2022, please contact us on trainingcentre@horning-sailing.club so that we can ensure that you are sent the relevant information – thank you, Bob.
