Hi everyone,

The 2022 season has flown by and we hope that you had a great time - it’s been fantastic to see so many people enjoying being on the water and being with friends at the Club. Last weekend also saw our AGM, where we welcomed Will & Peter for another year as Flag Officers along with our new Committee, followed by a brilliant End of Season Regatta, with nearly 40 boats enjoying racing on both the Broad and River. The full report is available via Yachts & Yachting here.

The full trophy list for the season is also available here – please don’t forget that Adrian Tooke, our Trophy Secretary, will need trophies back in good time for our Prizegiving, so we would be grateful if you could return these to the Clubhouse as soon as possible. There is more information on how to book for the Prizegiving below.

We have a work party this Saturday to tidy up the Island ready for the handover to Snowflake SC from 10am – please see more information below in Peter’s report. A gentle reminder that if you have boats on the Island that you do not intend to use over the winter period, please remove these as soon as possible - or get in touch with Will if this is likely to cause a problem.

Commodore’s Update

Last weekend saw the end of our 2022 season.  This was a busy one with our AGM held at Horning village hall Friday evening - my thanks to all the members who attended & to Robin for setting up the sound system.

Saturday afternoon saw the first day of the End of Season Regatta, which was held on the Broad. There was a good turn out with some lovely sunshine and wind that varied at times, then it was back to the Club - with a quick dash home - ready to return to the End of Season Supper held at The Wroxham Hotel, a smaller gathering of members but a lovely evening with fantastic food. We were the first to use the new dining area at the hotel, my thanks to Wendy & her team.

Sunday saw the second day of the Regatta, again a lovely sunny day with good wind. At lunchtime Vikki & her team produced a lovely roast dinner which was enjoyed by the members over the lunchtime break before the final races, well done. When Julian, the last over the line for the season, finished his race, Ron Jackson fired the cannon marking the end of our season.

Don’t forget our Prizegiving & Officer’s Handover, being held at the Boat House, Ormesby Broad, Ormesby. To book your meal for Prizegiving, see the attached booking sheet & menu - please can your book early as numbers have to be given shortly & late requests may end in disappointment.

My thanks to everyone who has helped & supported me over the season as Commodore, I look forward to carrying on as your Commodore for another year. Please attend work parties over the next few weeks, we need a lot of help so we can get jobs done, also keeping our costs down to prevent higher increases in fees, remember it’s all our Club, let’s all do our bit.

This weekend I shall be at Northampton Sailing Club, where Abbey starts her winter Training with the ITCA East Training Team.

I hope you all have a great weekend, whatever you may be doing.

Take Care

Vice Commodore’s Clew

Q: Why’s your piece called the ‘Vice Commodore’s Clew’?

A: Moving up the sheet we come to the clew, which conveniently sounds like a clue, so I thought that would do (and it rhymes).

Well, that is it, the season is over, boats are being laid up and we have some new faces coming into the management side of the Club, but sadly no new faces amongst the Flag Officers yet. We will soldier (sail) on and hope for your continued support. Starting off on that tack, we have our next published (in White Book) working party this Saturday, 1000 to 1300. We need to take down the marquee and tidy up the island, which is looking a bit weedy and overgrown. These tasks will require several people so please do try and come along to help if you can.

This week we have been mainly occupied with lifting boats out, and some repairs to the heads (toilets) have been required. All the internal lights have now been converted to more economical LEDs. This has all been accomplished by our Thursday group.

Last weekend we had the End of Season Regatta and there was an impressive turn out of boats, and some really nice sailing weather, so I think we went out on a bit of a high note. The next big event will be the Prize Giving Dinner at the end of the month, and at present that is the last event until the Christmas Party. However, I expect we will be having a meeting of the Entertainments Committee before then and there may be some new ideas to come.
