Horning Sailing Club’s annual Open Dinghy Weekend took place over 24/25th September, with racing on the River Bure outside the Clubhouse on Saturday afternoon, and on Hoveton Little Broad Sunday. Both days saw overcast, stormy skies and plenty of rain (particularly on Sunday!) – but also sunshine and rainbows, and the changeable conditions were enjoyed by the sailors. With many of the younger sailors transitioning to Lasers and Splashes, the Allcomers C fleet was somewhat depleted, with just a handful of Toppers and an RS Tera participating. Saturday saw extremely close competition between the Toppers of Anya Gittins and Jasmine Herring, with just seconds separating their finishes, whilst Sunday saw Anya secure her win, taking both the Cadet Cup and Kingfisher Trophy. The Allcomers B fleet was contested for in a range of boats, from a Wayfarer to Splashes, Lasers to a Wayfarer, with strong competition.
On Saturday, Tallulah Burr, sailing her Laser Radial, won the first race, just 3 seconds on handicap ahead of second-placed Hamish Harmer in his Splash, in third was Chris Bolton sailing his Solo. The second race was won by Chris, with Kim West second (Laser) and Tallulah third.
Sunday morning saw the winds become gustier, and the fleet grow with several more boats participating, and Chris took another win in his Solo. Hamish had another second in the morning race, with James Street third in his Laser radial. The next race saw Jasper Richardson win in his Laser Radial, with Chris second and Dominic Copping third in his Laser. The final race was won by Dominic, with James second and William Woolston (Laser Radial) third. Overall, the Allcomers B fleet was won by Chris Bolton in Utter Folly, winning the Onyx Barometer and Hannant Tankard. The Tino Trophy for first Laser overall went to James Street.
