It was a breezy start for Horning Sailing Club’s first downriver race of the year on Sunday 23 August 2020.  Although a small contingent, it was an enthusiastic fleet of Cruisers & Yeomans who made their way downriver, starting from Woods Dyke in Horning, on a reaching and running course to Thurne, with a turning buoy positioned on the River Bure towards Acle.  Whilst the wind was changeable – with one competitor who reefed commenting that 80% of the time you wished you didn’t have the reef, 20% of the time you were grateful to have it – on the leg towards Thurne competitors also enjoyed watching an aerobatic display taking place in the skies above!  After a short break the return leg began in similarly breezy conditions.  With the route back to Horning mainly a beat, sailors were prepared for a hard slog, but made it back to Horning incredibly quickly, finishing back at Woods Dyke.  After handicaps were applied, first Cruiser was Phil Montague’s Pickle, ahead of Peter Goshawk’s Grayling, and first Yeoman Geoff Stubb’s Tara ahead of David Hannant’s Jezebel.
