It was a quieter weekend for Horning Sailing Club over the Bank Holiday, with some members participating in regattas at Oulton and Barton Broads. Saturday evening saw the Sundown series continue, culminating in a fun race involving a backwards sailing leg, whilst Sunday’s racing on the river took place in brilliant sunshine and a gentle breeze, which proved frustratingly light at times. A strong tide meant that being over the line at the start could be costly, it being a struggle to cross back in the light winds. The first fleet away were the Reedlings, with Robert Hancock in Siskin catching up with the remainder of the fleet by the first buoy, despite falling victim to the strong tide at the start and having to recross the line. Eventually he went on to win the race, with Stuart Bailey (Jaws) second, and Kevin Saunders (Cockatrice) third. The second race would see Siskin lead the way round, with Cockatrice second, and Jaws (Ezra Bailey) third. The Yeomans also found conditions light, with Toby Fields (Tanskey) taking two wins in the morning, Geoff Stubbs (Tara) second, and Paul Clarke (Two C Sons) third. Tara won the third race, and Tanskey the fourth. For the morning Yare & Bure races, both Ron Jackson (Holly Blue) and Alastair Fields/Kevin Blackwell (Rosy Wave) took a win each, with the afternoon races going to Rosy Wave. Amongst the dinghies, Harrison Ryder and Tallulah Burr won a race each in their Splashes, whilst in the Toppers, Anya Gittins won two races, with Charlie Gould second in both, Charlie then won the third race, with Anya second.
Next weekend sees a Yare & Bure Open Weekend taking place on Hoveton Little Broad, a young team representing Horning Sailing Club taking part in the Broadland Youth Regatta at Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club on Saturday, and racing on the river Sunday.
