It was another breezy day for Horning Sailing Club’s racing on Sunday. With sailing taking place on the river outside the Clubhouse, the strong gusts provided entertainment for those watching, with many of the keelboats opting to reef, and plenty of capsizes amongst the dinghies.
More keelboats ventured out than last week, with the wind not quite as strong, and during the first race the Yeomans remained close – Geoff Stubbs in Tara winning, with Paul Clarke (Two C’Sons) second and Anaoh (Roger Pettit) third. The second race saw Paul and Roger swap positions, with only Paul sailing during the afternoon. The Yare & Bures and Rebels sailed together, with Dominic Copping (Scarce Copper) winning both the morning races, Alastair Fields in Rosy Wave winning the afternoon.
The dinghies saw a mix of Lasers, Splashes and a Topper – and for many it was the warm up to several weeks of sailing, as the young sailors prepare to participate in local regattas. The first race was particularly eventful – with almost the whole fleet capsizing in unison on multiple occasions. It eventually saw James Street win (Laser Radial) despite spectacularly falling backwards off his boat shortly before the start, with Anya Gittins (Splash) second, and Tallulah Burr (Laser Radial) third. The second race saw James and Anya take first and second, with Hamish Harmer (Splash) third. The first afternoon race saw Hamish, James and Anya swap positions, with James winning the final race.
Next weekend sees HSC’s Regatta Week begin, with Regatta Weekend taking place over Sat 29th/Sun 30th July.
