With the glorious summer weather, Horning Sailing Club enjoyed a beautiful weekend on the water, albeit with rather light winds. Saturday’s informal Sundown Series saw a great turnout, with both keelboats and dinghies enjoying the evening’s racing. Sunday’s club racing was on the river and began with a very gentle breeze and strong tide that made racing challenging at times – and resulted in a much shortened course. This resulted in large splits in fleets by the finishes. Thankfully, by the second race a steady sea breeze had kicked in, which made the winds a little more consistent. In the Reedlings, it was close racing, with the lead swapping several times – Robert Hancock in Siskin winning the first race from Roger Pettit in Osiris, the latter winning the further races. It was also close in the Rebels, with Kevin Edwards finishing first (Rebel Maid), and Kim West (Rebel Queen) just five seconds later. This theme continued into the second race with a photo finish – both crossing the line at the same time. Kevin made it another two wins during the afternoon. In the Yeomans, Geoff Stubbs in Tara won the first race, with Paul Clarke (Two C Sons) second, and Toby Fields (Tanskey) third. Tanskey won the second race, with Caroline Johnson (Cornelian) second and Tara third. Toby made it a second win of the day in the afternoon, with Paul second. The Yare & Bures saw Ron Jackson (Holly Blue) first, with Liz Goodyear (Chalkhill Blue) second, and Alastair Fields (Rosy Wave) third, with Holly Blue and Chalkhill Blue swapping positions for the second race, before Holly Blue won the third race. Amongst the dinghies, James Street sailing his Laser Radial won the first race, just ahead of William Woolston also sailing a Laser Radial, third was Hamish Harmer in his Splash. The second race saw Hamish first, Harrison Ryder second (Splash) and William third. By the afternoon series, first was Jasmine Herring sailing a Splash, with William second and Hamish third, William and Jasmine swapping places for the final race.
Next weekend sees the Sundown series continue, followed by racing on the river.
