Hi everyone,
We hope that you’ve had a good week – it seems unbelievable that we’ll be into May next week! We had another good day’s racing on Sunday (albeit a little damp in the afternoon!) – you can read the race report here. We’re also getting ready for more activities being underway soon! As you may have read in our last Jibsheet, unfortunately we have had to postpone our taster day which was planned for this Saturday (29th April), but we hope to have a new date soon. Instead there is more in Peter’s Report about the Training Centre activities on Saturday. This Sunday we will be racing on the River (full programme below).
Commodore’s Update
Welcome to this week’s edition of Jibsheet, yet another week has flown by. I would like to thank all the members who responded to Anne’s request for help last weekend to cover OOD, AOD, Timekeepers, Rescue etc, due to illness. The day was windy & very wet, well done to all & the sailors.
The numbers of keelboats racing is down at the moment, it would be great to see all fleets out racing, any problems with crews please follow Holly’s link, as there are members looking to crew.
I was away with my daughter Abbey at Waldringfield Sailing Club last Sunday, where Abbey was representing HSC in the ITCA Topper Traveller, a very wet and windy day that saw Laser’s & two Toppers sustaining broken masts. With 26 sailors taking part Abbey came overall 6th, with the second race achieving 1st place, well done to Abbey. I was out on safety, where we were kept busy & enduring the horrid weather conditions.
I was not able to be at the club for the racing, but on getting details of the day it was great to see a Yeoman & White Boat helmed & crewed by an all lady team, well done to them, let’s see more lady teams.
As you will notice, repairs are well underway on the floating pontoon, my thanks to David Gibbs & Julie Hunter for all the time they have put in so far, I will be calling on some volunteers shortly to come & help with the sanding & prep prior to its repaint. The toilet now has an opaque window fitted, it was a rather dark experience before. The roof has been completely renewed & raised with a new door to the office room.
With the Three Rivers Race getting ever closer, please sign up to help in the galley for breakfast duties, various shifts available please contact Kevin Saunders & the Fields family.
Last Thursday saw the Training Centre open for registration, we look forward to welcoming everyone back, please check with our dinghy berthing master David Gibbs for an on island mooring slot & pay Pam Shallcross our membership secretary.
To all members, please ensure the area around your mooring is kept tidy, any problems please contact either myself or Peter, if we all do our bit it will enable time to be spent on other tasks, again with these we need members’ help so we can keep the ever increasing costs down.
I hope you have a great weekend, whether sailing or watching, keep fingers crossed for better weather.
Take care
Will – Commodore HSC

Vice Commodore’s Clew
This week I need to draw your attention to our RYA Training Centre, which is a vital part of our Club. It is the biggest contribution we can make to our sport of sailing by introducing and training new young (and not so young) participants to the sport. It also helps the Club by gaining new members and everyone is encouraged to support it. You do not have to be a qualified instructor to play a part, and if you are, or would like to become a qualified instructor, our Training Centre Principal Andy Barnham would certainly like to hear from you.
The training season starts next Thursday and we need your support to make sure all boats and equipment is ready. Some work was done last weekend but there were not enough helpers to get the job completed, so we need you again this Saturday for whatever time you can spare from about 0930 onwards, probably up to mid-afternoon.

Galley News
A very big thank you to Alannah, Rob and their two hard working daughters Milly and Isla for giving up their time to help in the galley last Sunday. With two sandwich toasters on the go, we managed to complete all our orders, with many trying the ‘Juwaiin’.
Here are some of the things we have in store for this weekend:
Breakfast:
Toast
Bacon, sausage and egg breakfast rolls
Scrambled egg on toast
Lunch:
Our featured toasted sandwich is the ‘Chocco-nana’ as selected by Rose, who fancied going down the sweet route of a Nutella and banana toastie.
A small selection of filled baguettes
Sandwiches
Sausage rolls
Snacks and Goodies:
Selection of chocolate and crisps
We also have fruit, cereal bars and low calorie chocolate bars
Drinks:
As well as our usual cans and hot drinks we also have bottles of flavoured water
We also have dairy free milk available.
If you forget to order, no worries, if we’ve got it, we’ll make it!
See you Sunday!

Coronation Flotilla
I am organising a flotilla to celebrate the Coronation.
It will take place on Sunday 7th of May.
It will start from Black Horse Broad Entrance at 4.30pm. We will go through the village to Hobbs Mill just past Ferry Inn and back through the village to Black Horse Broad.
Boats should be dressed with bunting/flags and crew in fancy dress too maybe.
Open to all types of craft.
Ring your bells, toot your horns, wave and cheer.
All craft take part at their own risk.
Please ensure plenty of room between each vessel and adhere to all river safety rules and regulations.
If you can't take part, watch us go by and give us a wave.

Helms & Crew opportunities
Don’t forget that I am co-ordinating helms & crews who wish to get on the water... so, if you are a helm looking for a crew, or a crew looking to get on the water, please contact me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com with your requirements and contact details, I will do my best to coordinate these requests. At the moment we have more helms looking for crews, than crews looking for opportunities – so if you are keen to get on the water, it’s a great time to do so!
Easy Fundraising
If you haven’t signed up yet to support the Club through online shopping, you can do so here at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/horningsc/ - a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us in this way!
