Hi everyone,
The evenings are fast drawing in, reminding us that sadly our season will soon be drawing to a close, but we still have lots to look forward to before then – including Open Dinghy Weekend starting today. The programme is in the White Book with racing starting at 2pm today. For tomorrow, there will be three back-to-back races and sandwiches will be available to purchase from the Galley for £2 on return back to the Clubhouse, and soup available to pre-order for £2.50.
Next week we have Commodore’s Day on Saturday 1st October, our Autumn Regatta on Sunday 2nd, then our AGM (Friday 7th October), End of Season Supper and End of Season Regatta (8th/9th October). We hope that you will be able to join us either on or off the water over the next few weeks. Last weekend we saw our Junior Regatta on Saturday, and a Down River race on Sunday – you can read about both these events here.
Commodore’s Update
At the weekend I was away at Lion Barn Reservoir in Surrey as Abbey was representing HSC in the ITCA Topper NS1, with lovely weather on both days & good winds. Abbey did very well & I was very proud of her. I was on duty on the water & on Saturday ended up repairing one of the safety boats that had engine problems. As a result I was unable to attend the Junior Regatta.
Monday was a momentous occasion which saw the funeral of our Queen. To see years of our history shown to us & the world, with the Armed forces & military bands carrying out their duties with such precision & dedication, it made you so proud to be British, a befitting occasion for our Queen who dedicated 70 years of her life to serve this Country. she would have been so proud of them all.
The End of Season Supper will take place at The Wroxham Hotel, Hoveton, on Saturday 08th October, 19:00 for 19:30 - details and booking form are attached, payments please by BACS. Please book in advance as the Restaurant needs time to order our requirements and requests after the date may not be accepted, payment must be made when ordering please.
The Prize Giving & Officers’ Handover will follow - remember to book the date 29th October 2022, again 19:00 for 19:30, at The Boathouse, Ormesby Broad, Ormesby .
Don’t forget the AGM on Friday 07th October at Horning Village Hall starting at 20:00hrs, It would be great to see you all there.
Please remember to have your trophies returned, we require ones for the Dinghy Open and all trophies ready for our Prizegiving. Adrian Tooke & Kerry Tooke are our Trophy Secretaries.
Commodores Day –Saturday 01st October 11am – 4pm. It would be great to see you all - hopefully the weather will be kind. Please bring paddleboards & other inflatables for just a fun family day & some fun racing subject to weather. BBQs will be available for use with some snacks and sides provided, please bring cakes to share.
Have a great weekend
Regards
Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
There are no particular maintenance issues to mention this week, but you may have noticed a second post alongside the dory moorings. This is to help older members like me to get in and out of a dory. The Thursday group have carried out this useful piece of work on our behalf.
I attended the morning session of our Junior Regatta last weekend and was very impressed with both the large turnout and the skills of most of the young competitors. Obviously our instructors and the Training Centre in general have been doing a very good job. I think we may see a similar turnout, and many of the same faces, for the Open Dinghy Weekend coming up next. As a keelboat and offshore cruiser sailor, I think they are all very brave to go out in such small and unstable boats, but then I suppose I did the same when I was still agile enough to cope! They are all exciting to watch in a good wind.
I have no working party plans to give you at present as Will has picked our next possible date for his Commodore’s Day, but do come along to that as it will certainly be a lot more entertaining than grass cutting and weeding.
