Hi everyone,
Another week has flown by and whilst club activities are continuing (you can read last week’s race report here), the main event is our Regatta Week, which is just over a week away – it seems to have come round faster than ever this year and we are looking forward to seeing you! Even if you cannot join us on the water, please come down for one of the evening socials – these are always great fun and there is more information below and attached – the Entertainments Committee have planned a great week’s worth of entertainment, so please get involved – and return the booking form to me available through the Downloads section of the website (Holly – on news@horning-sailing.club) by next Friday 29th July. Remember that as it is an Open Regatta (Mon-Fri) family/friends are welcome to come down and sail or attend our evening social events. The full sailing programme is available in the White Book. The race pre-entry forms are also available via Downlaods if you wish to enter this way – the deadline for these is 28th July. I am also aware of several members in need of crews over the week, so please let me know if you would like to crew during Horning Week.
Please also remember to sign up to the Duty Rota – either here or in the Clubhouse – and return any trophies to the Trophy Secretary, Adrian Tooke, if you have not done so already.
In a change to our published programme, this weekend we will be following programme A and sailing on the river.
Commodore’s Update
What a week, I hope you all have kept safe & well in the sweltering temperatures.
My thanks to the parents who helped move the boats & racks on Thursday evening, so we could get a head start on the last part of phase 2 of the new dinghy surface. On Saturday Peter, Chris Bolton & myself in the extreme temperature completed this last section - to all involved & who helped throughout this project a massive thank you, I think you will agree what a transformation it has made.
Following on from the work party, on Saturday afternoon we ran the Sundown series, with lovely warm sunshine & good wind. Racing didn’t finish until after 19:30 as everyone was having such a good time. Sunday was extremely hot with light & changeable winds, which made sailing a challenge, I even got out & crewed Toby for a race after lunch.
Monday evening paddleboarding, again very hot, but everyone having a good time with the obligatory water frolics, before having to chase home for the management meeting on zoom, where the committee is working hard on various items.
Monday, I picked up our new cutting machine, the modern equivalent of an Allen Scythe - will have pictures of it next week in action this Saturday when we clear up ready for Horning week. Please, as Peter will ask, we need as many as possible to come down - it’s fun & helps spread the workload.
Sundown will then follow in the afternoon, so come down & join us whether sailing or relaxing watching the racing, help is also required.
Peter & myself will be at NBYC on Thursday of their regatta week to help run the line, & they join us on Wednesday of Horning week, it’s good to see the clubs working together.
The posters & details for Horning week are attached. As an advance notice, for the trip on the Southern Comfort you will need to bring that old thing called cash with you, as the bar is cash only. The club bar & events can be paid direct by card online. Please can members book asap & not leave it to the last minute as we have to get numbers in in plenty of time; we all know items aren’t readily available as before so this will help avoid disappointment. Peter & myself look forward to seeing you there & we hope you have a lovely week, it will soon be here. Don’t forget to sign up to volunteer for rescue / galley etc.
Weed is still a big problem on the Broad & we will update you shortly regarding the regatta weekend.

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
This week I just need to remind everyone that we have a work party this Saturday, 23 July, to prepare the Club for Horning Week. The date is in the White Book so you should all be aware already. The aim is to make sure the Club looks neat and tidy for the main event of the season, so that includes cutting grass, clearing weeds and fixing any minor defects like loose boards etc. We will need a cross river group so bring your life jacket. I have been to see the Thursday work group today and they have already done some of the tasks for us, so the normal session of 1000 to 1300 should be enough for us to get everything done if we have the numbers. Please come and play your part in making Horning Week the success you would all wish for.

A message from Caroline Johnson regarding the Regatta Week Church Service at HSC
Horning Week Service - Sunday 31st July 2022
As usual there will be a short informal service before sailing on the Sunday of Horning week. This will take place at 9.30 in the gazebo and be led by Revd. Taylor Wilton-Morgan, who is the curate at Horning church. Everyone is welcome and we will be joined by church members from the village.
Monday – Paddleboarding sessions
Paddleboarding will continue this Monday 25th July from 6pm-8pm. Please be ready to go at 6pm - we usually go for a paddle for an hour or so before returning to the Clubhouse. Please bring your own paddleboard (along with leash), and buoyancy aid – it’s going to be a warm one!

HSC 200 Club – from Joan Butcher
Fifteen numbers totalling £320 are drawn each quarter with a top prize of £75.
