Hi everyone, another week has flown by and we are already in mid-April! This means that many of our club events and activities will soon be underway, including training and the Three Rivers Race (don’t forget to get your entries in by 23rd April – www.3rr.uk) After a beautiful day’s racing on the Broad Sunday, the weather was not quite so kind for Easter Monday’s Downriver Race to Thurne, but activities were enjoyed nonetheless. You can read the race report here – many thanks to Toby & Ioana for the photographs.
This weekend, we will be racing on the River Sunday – following programme A, with more information below.
We would like to wish Chris Bolton & Hamish Harmer good luck as they represent HSC in the Ramuz Trophy this Sunday at Beccles Amateur Sailing Club, this year sailing in Norfolk Dinghies.
Commodore’s Update
Hi to everyone and welcome to this week’s edition of Jibsheet, I hope you all had a great Easter. The weather was good except Monday, which was rather grim.
We had our first racing on the Broad on Sunday, many thanks to Toby Fields and his team for running this, followed by the Downriver on Monday, where 5 boats braved the appalling weather, thanks to Geoff & Michael Stubbs for running the day & thanks also to the safety boat crews.
I was away on Sunday at NBYC in Wroxham where they were holding a Topper open, & my daughter Abbey was representing HSC at the event. It was a good day with 4 races and Abbey came 4th overall, just missing out on 3rd place by 1 point. We will be away at Grafham Water this weekend for the ITCA NS3 event where Abbey will again be representing HSC, at which I will be the CSL (course safety lead) for the 4.2’s.
It would be great to see other juniors attending these events, as Anya Gittins has also. If you would like to know more, please speak to me, also Abbey & Anya. It is great fun & an invaluable experience, further improving boat handling skills, also sailing in different types of locations, reservoirs, estuaries & the sea.
Last Friday I managed to spend time getting my Yeoman cleaned & ready to sail when I get the chance.
As members might have noticed, the pontoon is currently moored at the club where it is undergoing full repairs & renovation. When it has had the major work completed I will be looking for volunteers to come along & help repaint it, please keep a look out for this.
The galley team are off to a great start, with a variety of goodies on offer.
Don’t forget to book your entry for the Three Rivers race - Kevin & his team are doing a sterling job with the preparations.
Thanks to Julie Thompson & Pauline Bourke for taking over the running of the 200 Club from Joan & Jack Butcher, who did an excellent job for many years. If you haven’t joined, please join, as there are numbers available & the club benefits from it greatly, not to mention the prize money to be won in the draws, please speak to Julie or Pauline.
Can I ask all members to put cans, plastic bottles in the applicable bins in the clubhouse & not in the general waste, so HSC can do its bit for the environment. Also, a polite reminder to use the bins & not leave sweet wrappers, bottles etc around the island. Please also return cups & plates to the galley & leave tables clean and ready for other members to use.
That’s all for now, I hope you have a great weekend sailing or watching - sorry I can’t be there, but will see you soon.
Regards
Will – Commodore HSC

Vice Commodore’s Clew
I have spent most of the last 2 weeks preparing my boat for relaunching. She spends the winter in a large shed in Martham, so varnishing and antifouling can be done in any weather so long as it is not too cold. She has been relaunched today, so now I just have to sail round to Horning but as the wind is a bit aggressive today and likely also tomorrow the annual voyage to Horning may have to be slightly delayed. I hope to be back on the island for the weekend, and next week is looking good weather wise.
I believe we are back on the river for racing this Sunday with some decent weather forecast, so for those who, like me, are a bit behind with the fitting out, it is about time to go sailing again.

This Sunday, we have a variety of sandwiches available, including toasted sandwiches. We will also have a few pre-filled baguettes to choose from for only £2.80.
We look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Ring your bells, toot your horns, wave and cheer.
All craft take part at their own risk.
Please ensure plenty of room between each vessel and adhere to all river safety rules and regulations.

Helms & Crew opportunities
Don’t forget that I am coordinating helms & crews who wish to get on the water... so, if you are a helm looking for a crew, or a crew looking to get on the water, please contact me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com with your requirements and contact details, I will do my best to coordinate these requests. At the moment we have more helms looking for crews, than crews looking for opportunities – so if you are keen to get on the water, it’s a great time to do so!
