Sunday’s racing at Horning saw a beautiful spring day, and more boats venturing out on the water for the first time this season. This included four Reedlings, who were the first boats away, racing through Horning Reach in a gentle breeze and warm sunshine. Robert Hancock sailing Siskin pulled away at the start of both the morning races to take the win, with Stuart Bailey (Jaws) second in the first race. The second race saw a tussle ensue amongst the remaining three boats, with new Reedling owner Brian Levy sailing Osiris into second place. The afternoon races were won by Ezra Bailey in Jaws.
There was also a strong fleet of Yeoman, with six competing, and the racing becoming closer as the day progressed. The fleet remained bunched together for much of the first lap, allowing Toby Fields (Tanskey) the opportunity to overtake race leader Geoff Stubbs (Blue Yeonder) to finish first, with Blue Yeonder second, and Roger Pettit (Anoah) third. The second race was even tighter,Toby taking another win in Tanskey and just seconds separating the top three finishers, with Mike Stubbs (Blue Yeonder) second, and Caroline Johnson (Cornelian) third. The afternoon series again saw tough competition, with Toby taking his third win of the day.
In the Yare & Bure fleet, results were mixed, with Alastair Fields (Rosy Wave), Clive Gardner (Hairstreak) and Ron Jackson (Holly Blue) each taking a win throughout the course of the day.
Once again there was a strong turnout of dinghies, with many of the young sailors now having migrated from Toppers to Lasers and Splashes. First over the water and on handicap was Tallulah Burr sailing her Laser Radial, with Hamish Harmer second in his Splash. Third was James Street sailing his Laser Radial. The second race saw a win for William Woolston (Laser Radial) with Tallulah and Hamish tied on handicap for second place. By the afternoon, William won his second race of the day, and by the final race, James had converted his third into a win.
This week signifies a busy week at HSC, with the start of the 2023 training season on Thursday evening, and racing continuing on the River on Sunday, when there will be special glasses awarded to commemorate the King’s Coronation.
